Our story
Academic quiz bowl competitions, known locally as High-Q, have been a fixture in the El Paso, TX region since the 1980’s. These competitions have been taking place in local high schools annually for over 40 years. High-Q was also a local PBS produced television show that was televised for 36 years (1984-2020), making it the second longest running show of its kind in the United States.
DSQBA was created to support academic quiz bowl competition in the desert southwest. Academic quiz bowl is a fast-paced academic competition where teams of students answer questions covering a wide range of subjects. It provides high school students access to a competitive team activity rooted in rigorous academic content that promotes critical thinking, teamwork, and intellectual curiosity.
